The Tower Yearbook Wins Third Consecutive Gold Crown Award

STUDENT AFFAIRS | Loyola Marymount University’s The Tower yearbook has once again been awarded the Gold Crown from Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The Gold Crown for Tower’s 2017 edition is the sixth in The Tower’s history and its third consecutive top honor, making Loyola Marymount University the only university in the country to have its yearbook honored with the last three consecutive Gold Crowns.

The 2017 Tower featured a cutting-edge Fragment/Fuse theme that combined how students interact as individuals and as a collective in groups.

“Every year we at Tower strive to push the traditional confines of design, photography and editorial content, so it is amazing to be recognized for our innovative approach,” said 2017 editor in chief Mali McGuire (’17 B.S. Biology and ’18 M.S. Healthcare System Engineering).” Overall, our book is so much more than a yearbook, but is a summation of many people’s creativity, voice and vision. It is a rewarding opportunity to work with a talented team to learn about the students and happenings of the year to create an artistic remembrance of LMU.”

Other universities winning Collegiate Yearbook Crowns were: Southern Methodist University (Gold), Baylor University (Silver) and North Carolina State (Silver).

The 384-page book was available to students at no charge via the Student Media fee last April. The 2018 Tower yearbook will be available to all undergraduates in April.

The yearbook is part of LMU’s award-winning Student Media program, which also includes the Los Angeles Loyolan and ROAR Studios.

The Los Angeles Loyolan was honored with a Silver Crown Award from Columbia Scholastic Press Association . It is the second straight year the Loyolan has won for digital and print news.
