ATHLETICS | Women’s water polo continues to be recognized for their achievements in the classroom this season. The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced their All-Academic Awards team on Thursday with 12 Lions again recognized, one week after 12 members of the Loyola Marymount women’s water polo team were named to the Golden Coast Conference All-Academic Team. In addition, LMU received the All-Academic team award from the ACWPC for holding a grade point average above a 3.0. As a team, the Lions finished the school year at a 3.27 GPA mark.
With registration now open, the wait is over to reserve tickets for LMU’s third annual Beerfest. Join us Saturday, Aug. 4 for unlimited tastings, local craft beers and ciders including several from LMU Alumni. Dance to live music, enjoy L.A.’s best food trucks, partake in giant games and receive souvenir T-shirts and glasses. All proceeds from Beerfest benefit LMU student-athletes through the Lions Athletic Fund.
Volleyball players Emily Day and Betsi Flint returned to their winning ways, claiming their second-consecutive victory on the AVP Pro Beach Tour. After winning the Seattle Open on June 21, the LMU alums teamed up again to win the San Francisco Open on Sunday. The next stop on the tour is in Hermosa Beach, July 26-29.
Both women’s basketball and beach volleyball added to their rosters. As her seventh season as head coach of LMU women’s basketball approaches, Charity Elliott has announced the dynamic incoming class who will join her on the court this upcoming season. Following the conclusion of his third season at the helm of the LMU beach volleyball program, John Mayer has announced a talented group of newcomers who will compete for the Lions next season.
Lion indoor volleyball assistant coach Natalie Morgan recently completed a stint on the coaching staff with the U.S. Collegiate National Team on a tour to China. Team USA concluded a five-match, 10-day trip to China with a pair of wins in Beijing and visits to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China.
