A Message from Public Safety and the Dean of Students – Ride Sharing During the Holidays

PUBLIC SAFETY AND THE DEAN OF STUDENTS | Many Lions will be traveling for the holiday break, and with that comes a sizeable uptick in the use of ride share services like Uber and Lyft. While ride shares are a convenient way to travel, it is important to always be mindful and be safe when using these services.

Below are a few common safety tips we recommend following when riding with Uber or Lyft:

  • Before getting in the car, confirm the driver’s identity and vehicle matches what is shown on your app.
  • Check the driver’s rating and the number of rides given.
  • Never pay with cash, even for tipping; always use your account on the app for payment.
  • Share your trip details with a family member or friend.
  • Use the Rave Guardian “Watch Me Walk” feature (if you don’t have the Rave Guardian app, you can download it here).
  • If possible, travel in a group while using ride sharing services.

We want you to remember to make your wellness and safety a priority. Please be reminded that the university has resources and services available to support and assist you:

On behalf of LMU, we wish all Lions a wonderful holiday break, wherever you may roam.
