We’re All in This Together: Staying Social While Social Distancing

LION WELLNESS | With all our lives being turned upside down these past few weeks, it’s normal to be feeling more anxious, stir crazy, and stressed out by the uncertainty of a constantly changing situation.

Even while physically separated, our hope is that we can still recognize and celebrate our togetherness as an LMU community. There has never been a greater need for connection between one another right now along with self-compassion, empathy, and a dose of inspiration to get us through tough times.

Starting today, LMU This Week Student Edition will spotlight ways to stay connected, care for yourself, and recognize the incredible amount of good going on in the world right now. We hope these resources will make your days a little brighter and help us stay #LMUtogether.

Stay Connected

Staying Social While Social Distancing

Are you reminiscing about the good times shared with friends at LMU before social distancing? Thankfully virtual platforms are stepping up their game to help us all stay connected and continue making memories even while apart.

Try one of these remote activity ideas:

  • Movie Night In: Grab snacks and your computer to catch up on mindless entertainment with good company! Netflix Party allows for individuals to watch a program on the steaming service remotely with other users at the same time. The chat feature allows you to discuss the movie or TV show in real time!
  • Alternative Dinner Party: Do you miss eating with friends after class? Host a virtual dinner party to catch up with your peers! People who eat their meals with company have increased levels of happiness. Get creative with a streamed virtual feast for a quarantine-inspired dining experience!
  • At-Home Concert: Turn on your computer’s microphone and show off your singing skills with a remote karaoke session with friends. Simply connect to a virtual conference platform, such as Zoom or Skype, and invite your friends to join in the stress-relieving fun.
  • Virtual Get-Together: Host a virtual party! Download Houseparty to connect with up to eight friends simultaneously for a group video chat that lets you all hangout while staying in isolation.
  • Remote Game Night: There’s nothing like a little friendly competition with friends! Grab a board or card game like Monopoly or Cards Against Humanity, and use your webcam to play remotely with friends. Or else lots of beloved board games exist as apps with online multiplayer modes so you can play while video calling. Search the App Store or Play Store for games to try.
