International Education Week Highlights LMU’s Connections Around the Globe

OFFICE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS |The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS), Study Abroad, and the Office of National and International Fellowships have partnered together to celebrate International Education Week, promoted by the U.S. Departments of State and Education. During the week of Nov. 16-20, 2020, there will be multiple events held online, along with a virtual exhibit to recognize and celebrate the benefits of international education and international exchange worldwide and on our LMU campus.

“International education and exchange remind us that we are a global, interconnected family who must work together for the benefit of all and especially those who are marginalized and have no voice,” said Csilla Samay, assistant dean of students for the Office for International Students and Scholars. “With 777 international students enrolled at the Westchester campus hailing from 86 countries, over half of our students are engaging in their coursework from outside the U.S. and remain a very active part of our LMU community.”

This year, the virtual exhibit highlights several departments engaged in international education at LMU:

  • Join International students as they teach us how to make some traditional dishes;
  • Attend events that highlight the experiences of our students who secured fellowships abroad;
  • Hear from speakers from key Study Abroad destinations on how key current events have unfolded in their countries.

“At LMU, we are so fortunate to have an institution committed to international education,” Samay said, “a vibrant community of international students and scholars from around the world, and a faculty and student body who are committed to expanding their worldview and becoming women and men for and with others.”
