ATHLETICS | It was a weekend of wins for Loyola Marymount University teams. The baseball team took all three games from San Francisco to join the Dons at the top of the West Coast Conference standings in a tight race. The Lions have a full week coming up, playing at Long Beach State today before hosting USC for a rescheduled game, Wednesday at Page Stadium. Portland then comes to the bluff for the penultimate home conference series from Friday through Sunday.
The softball team also won all three of their games this weekend, outscoring Saint Mary’s 11-3 in Moraga. The Lions, also tied for first in the conference, host Santa Clara this weekend for two on Saturday and one on Sunday at Smith Field in the final home series of the season.
The women’s tennis team wrapped up an unbeaten home schedule with victories over BYU and San Diego this past weekend. LMU went 10-0 at home and now has two final road games before the WCC Championships begin.
Women’s water polo also took both conference matches this weekend, finishing 6-1 in GCC play for the first time since joining the conference in 2013. The Lions will be back at Burns Aquatics Center this Saturday for a weekend exhibition before heading into the conference tournament hosted on campus at Burns Aquatic Center from April 27-29. Tickets will be available on site all three days as LMU competes for the GCC title.
Until last week, men’s tennis carried a 12-match win streak, the best in the conference. While that streak was snapped, the Lions look to send off their seniors on a positive note this week with two final home games. Santa Clara comes in to LMU Tennis Center on Friday and then San Francisco closes out the regular season with the final home game of the year. Both matches will begin at 1 p.m.
WCC spring championship season has begun! The men’s golf team is competing down south and will close out the final round of the tournament tomorrow. Then the beach volleyball team plays at Ocean Park Courts in Santa Monica for their WCC Championships on Friday and Saturday.
