New Scholarship Honors Father Lawton

MISSION AND MINISTRY | Rev. Robert B. Lawton, S.J., whose tenure at LMU was marked by his passion for a Jesuit education and his commitment to diversity and inclusion, which remains one of our university’s highest objectives, is being honored twice this month. On Jan. 24, the university is conferring a Doctor of Humane Letters degree on Father Lawton in recognition of his remarkable impact on LMU. In addition, to honor his legacy and bolster this tradition, LMU and Father Lawton’s friends have created an endowed scholarship in his name.

This year, the 38th annual LMU Wine Classic fundraiser will support The Robert B. Lawton, S.J. Endowed Scholarship. This new scholarship initiative will support underrepresented students, regardless of their religious identification, demonstrating financial need and coming to LMU from local Catholic high schools.
