Celebrate Catholic Schools Week

UNIVERSITY NEWS | The LMU Center for Catholic Education, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Department of Catholic Schools, is celebrating Catholic Schools Week by highlighting the network of eight L.A. Dual Language Immersion Catholic Schools with dual or trilingual immersion curriculum.

Catholic Schools Week – Jan. 25 to Feb. 2, 2019 – is an annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. This year’s theme is Learn, Serve, Lead, Succeed, core values around which the 6,500 Catholic schools across the nation measure their impact. Events can be followed on social media with the hashtag #CSW19.

Each student in the dual language curriculum learns content in two languages — either Spanish and English or Mandarin and English. LMU will welcome more than 1,000 DLI elementary school students, teachers and principals to campus on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for a Catholic Schools Week Dual Language Immersion Celebration. The day will begin with a multilingual Mass in Sacred Heart Chapel, followed by lunch and community-building activities across cultures in Sunken Garden.

By building community, celebrating Catholic Schools Week and creating an experience of pride in learning another language, the goal is to foster respect and intentionally assimilate the values of other cultures.

There will be opportunities for LMU faculty and staff members and students to casually and informally welcome the dual language students and interact with them, reinforcing their pathway to becoming global citizens learning, serving, leading and succeeding within and among multicultural perspectives.
