Rocket League Team Becomes Inaugural West Coast Conference Champions

In the first ever West Coast Conference Rocket League Championship Tournament held on February 4th & 5th, sponsored by GEICO, LMU came out victorious defeating San Diego in the championship game, 3-0, in dominating fashion.  With more than 100 online viewers, the LMU team, led by four first-year students, Hayden Press, Henry Lissner, Brode Ellison and Aiden Srouji defeated Santa Clara in rounds 1 & 2 to earn a trip to the final round against San Diego.  With the victory, the team earned a $1000 prize, HyperX headsets, and the opportunity to compete in the Esports Collegiate Rocket League Tournament on February 6th & 7th.

On February 6th & 7th the LMU team began their run at the overall collegiate title by defeating UNC-Ashville, 3-0, and following up that victory with another well-executed win against Abilene Christian University, 3-0.  In the national semi-finals LMU fell to a very tough Winthrop, 0-4, to end their run in the tournament.   Despite never meeting in person due to COVID, this team came together quickly and opened their season on a high note.  The team will continue to compete this spring in several additional collegiate tournaments and begin their run for a championship in the PlayVS league in late-March.
