A Welcome from GSLMU President Amie Gonzalez

GSLMU President Amie Gonzalez

Lions,

As GSLMU President, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you all back to the bluff. As we begin the new academic year, I invite you all to remember the importance of community.

Transitioning into fall 2021 will bring with it several new challenges…challenges not only presented to graduate students but also the entire LMU community. Patience, understanding, and empathy are critical for the LMU community to thrive together. Let us foster this environment by becoming active LMU citizens, which requires staying informed, practicing patience, and committing to campus safety.

This past summer, GSLMU conducted a survey to shine light on pressing issues among our graduate student population. A special thank you to all the graduate students who completed GSLMU’s survey. As a result of your feedback, GSLMU has identified several urgent needs for our graduate students, which include:

  1. Communication – Survey results demonstrated students have an immediate need for more streamlined, concise, and reliable communication. GSLMU commits itself to work with the university communication to address graduate students’ communication needs.
  2. Networking – Students have expressed high interest in more networking opportunities, in particular among different programs. GSLMU commits to offering networking events among different colleges and programs in order to expand our constituents’ professional networks and in furtherance of LMU’s mission of the education of the whole person.
  3. University Resources – A call for easier access and more awareness of general university resources also was communicated. GSLMU commits itself to not only provide more guidance on available resources, but also address any potential gaps in resources available to graduate students.

I kindly remind all graduate students to join GSLMU’s LEO portal—LMU’s online student engagement platform. GSLMU updates students with important announcements and events via our LEO portal.

I leave you all with a quote on the importance of community, one that I strive to live by in this period of transition: “Coming together is a beginning; Keeping together is progress; working together is success.”

Best of luck to all this upcoming year, and GO LIONS!
